Abstract:

The aim of this study is to determine the socio-economic contribution of ORKOY individual projects implemented between 2002 and 2016 in Sakarya Regional Directorate of Forestry. In the forest villages of Kocaeli and Sakarya, a survey was applied to 338 people using social loans, 228 using economic loans, and 187 people not using loans. The current average net profit (monetary value in 2017) of the respondents using economic loans is 9,411TL/year, increasing by 26.4% compared to the pre-loan. On the other hand, among those using economic loans, those with active individual projects contributed 20% to their household income. Wood consumption decreased by 14.5% in those using social loans compared to before loans, while it decreased by 6.3% in economic loans and by 9.3% in those who did not use loans. While the cost of water heating decreased by 71.8% in those using social loans, by 5.5% in those using economic loans, it increased by 9.4% in those who did not use loans. In forest crimes, there was a decrease of 76.9% in those using economic loans, 17.1% in those using social loans, and 56.8% in those who did not use loans. It has been observed that the respondents are of the opinion that social and economic individual project practices reduce the illegal use of the forest, in the range of 0-5 points, too much (4.03) and much (3.67), respectively.
