Abstract:

The aim of this study is to adapt the Authentic Leadership Questionnaire (ALQ) developed by Avolio and others (2007) and to test its validity and reliability on health managers. The authentic leadership scale, which is original in English, is adapted to Turkish by different translators and translated and applied to the middle-level (the assistant doctor, the assistant director) and the lower-level health managers (the administrative unit managers) (n=263) who work in 19 hospitals in Ankara. The data obtained from the study were analyzed in the SPSS 22.0 and LISREL 9.30. A verifying factor analysis has been done to test the structure validity of the measurement. As a result of the verifying factor analysis, the scale was found to be similar to the original scale to the four-dimensional second-level multi-factor structure, which consists of the dimensions of "transparency in relationships", "integrated moral understanding", "balanced behavior-process" and "self-consciousness" (X2/SD=2,65; RMSEA=0,079; GFI=0,89; CFI=0,98). The size and lower dimensions have been found to have high reliability. The Cronbach alpha value is 0.95 for the general scale and varies between 0.84 and 0.89 for the lower dimensions. The findings from the research show that the Turkish version of the Authentic Leadership Scale is a valid and reliable tool for health managers to measure the characteristics of Authentic Leadership.
