Abstract:

Social media, whose use has become widespread, has turned into addiction. The increase in the level of social media addiction has resulted in lower feelings of well-being and perception of social support. In this context, the research aimed to examine the relationship between social media addiction and well-being levels of university students and the mediating role of social support perception sub-dimensions (family, peer, and private) in this relationship. The sample of the research, whose population consists of university students, consists of 562 students, 412 of whom are female and 150 of whom are male. "Bergen Social Media Addiction Scale", "Three-Dimensional Perceived Social Support Scale", "Psychological Well-Being Scale" were used as measurement tools in the research. In the analysis of data, correlation and mediation analyzes were performed as basis in evaluating the findings. As a result of the research, the relationship between well-being and perception of addiction and social support was found to be significant, while the relationship between addiction and perception of social support was not found to be significant. However, the relationship between social media addiction and well-being was mediated only by family support. It is recommended that researchers identify other variables affecting this model in future studies.
