Abstract:

A lot of research and analysis has been done in the liberty literature to determine the reasons why people are unable to participate in a variety of activities and the factors that facilitate their participation. These studies show that the information containing the demographic characteristics of individuals is included in varian analysis, while the relevant factors are thoroughly evaluated, but it is believed that different analysis methods are needed in literature to better understand the subject. Therefore, the main objective of this study is to determine how gender and civil status are effective on both the factors that prevent participation in the activities of the free time and the factors that facilitate participation. The President of the Board of Ethics of Social and Human Sciences of the University of Bartin, dated 08.01.2021 and Decision No. 2020-SBB-0343, has decided that the study is in accordance with the ethical rules. In a study conducted on 332 sedanter individuals, selected by the easy sampling method, the short form of the vacancy obstacles scale (BZEÖ-KF) and the scale of the vacancy facilitators (SZKÖ) were used as a data collection tool. The research model created to study the relationship between scales has been tested with the multi-indicator multi-cause model. The study finds that gender and civic status have a direct negative impact on free-time barriers, while it has a direct positive impact on free-time facilitators. This situation can be interpreted in the form of a manic effect by the variable of gender and civic status on the levels of participation or non-participation of sedanter individuals in their leisure activities.

Abstract:

Many research and analysis on leisure has examined why people do not participate in leisure activities or what factors facilitate their participation. In these studies, especially the information containing demographic characteristics of the people has been included with variance analysis while the relevant factors are evaluated in a comprehensive way. However, different analysis methods have been needed in the literature for a better understanding of the subject in depth. For this reason, the aim of study is to determine to what extent gender and marital status affected the factors that constrain participation in leisure activities and factors that facilitate participation. With the decision of Bartın University Social and Human Sciences Ethics Committee dated 08.01.2021 and numbered 2020-SBB-0343, the study was decided to be in compliance with ethical rules. Leisure Constraints Scale-SF (LCS-SF) and Leisure Facilitators Scale (LFS) are used as data collection tools in this study conducted with 332 participants. Multiple Indicators and Multiple Causes Model (MIMIC) have been used to test relationship between scales. As a result, gender and marital status have a direct negative effect on LCS-SF. These variables have a direct positive effect on LFS. This situation may be interpreted as socio-demographic characteristics have a significant effect on sedentary individuals' ability to participate in leisure activities or not.
