Abstract:

The aim of this study is to examine the predictor effect of 5-6 year-old children’s levels of aggression and exposure to peer victimization (PV) on their levels of being liked by peers (BLP). The sample group of the study consisted of 241 5-6 year-old children attending preschool education in Pamukkale and Merkezefendi districts of Denizli province. This was a study with correlational survey model. Aggression subscale of Ladd and Profilet Child Behavior Scale, Peer Victimization Scale, Sociometric Technique Based on Child Rating, and Sociometric Technique Based on Teacher Rating were used as data collection tools in the study. Aggression subscale of Ladd and Profilet Child Behavior Scale and Peer Victimization Scale were filled by preschool teachers individually for each child. Simple Linear Regression Analysis was utilized to analyze the data. According to the results, a negative significant correlation was also found between aggression, peer victimization (PV), and level of being liked by peers (BLP). As a result of the teacher and peers views, it was revealed that as aggression and peer victimization (PV) increased, the children’s levels of being liked by peers (BLP) decreased. It was concluded in the study that the preschool children’s aggression and peer victimization levels were a statistically significant predictor of their levels of being liked by peers. Also, children's aggression and peer victimization (PV) levels significantly predict their levels of being liked by peers (BLP) according to peer and teacher views.
