It was aimed in this study to examine the self-determination behaviors of the secondary education students aged between 12-17 years, who lived in orphanages, and to explain these behaviors by some variables. he relevant survey was performed on the basis of quantitative research method. he research population was comprised of students aged between 12-17 years, who live in orphanages, run by the Institute of Social Services and Child Protection (abolished). he entire female and male students attended school and inhabited in the Directorate of Orphanage for Boys and Childrens’ Site in Edirne, Atatürk Orphanage for Girls in Istanbul, Orphanage for Boys and Orphanage for Girls in Kırşehir, 75th Year Republic Orphanage for Boys in Kocaeli, and Orphanage for Boys and Orphanage for Girls in Sakarya were enrolled in the research. AIR Self-Determination Scale was used as the data collection tool. The Cronbach Alpha coeficient in proof of the reliability of the scale was found to be 0.91. he total ratio of the opportunities provided to the students regarding the self-determination, and the total level of actualization of the self-determination behaviors were 72.43 %, and 74.51 %, respectively.
