Introduction:Arterial blood pressure measurement is one of the basic applications in nursing practice. Objectives: To evaluate the compliance with indirect measurement of arterial blood pressure steps of the nurses who enrolled in the study. Methods: Three hundred and fifty nurses who are working at surgical clinics, internal medicine clinics and Special Units of a university hospital between June 2013 and November 2013 have been composed the universe of the study. The study sample have been consisted of 136 nurses who have been observed during blood pressure measurements. Sample selection have been performed with a simple random method in proportion to the number of nurses at clinics. A questionnaire have been used in collecting the data which were developed in line with the literature. Data are expressed as numbers and percentages and Chi-square test was used in evaluating the results. Results: The median age of 136 nurses enrolled the study (118 females, 18 males) have been found 29.41±5.42 years. Since the compliance with indirect blood pressure measurement steps; were evaluated in terms of gender, the female nurses were found to perform more accurate measurements than male nurses; were evaluated in terms of education level, graduate and post-graduate degree nurses were found to perform more accurate measurements than vocational and associate degree nurses; were evaluated in terms of the study years, nurses who work 10-20 years were found to perform more accurate measurements than nurses who work under 10 years and more than 20 years; were evaluated in terms of the task, charge nurses were found to perform more accurate measurements than service nurses, and all of these differences were statistically significant. Conclusion: The participant nurse’s practice of measuring blood pressure is not enough and this situation is likely to lead to measurement errors.
