Since becoming the Republic of Armenia in 1991, after 71 yearsunder the Soviet Union, Armenia is still a country in transition. Theconstitution confirms that every person has the right to freedom of speechand expression. Everyone has the right to seek, receive, convey anddisseminate information. Television was and still is the most popular massmedia in Armenia. Online media is becoming a more popular source ofinformation. Censorship is prohibited under a 2004 media law. ButArmenian media has still a lot of important problems. But self-censorshipis common in Armenia - particularly in coverage of corruption, securityand the Nagorno-Karabakh situation. There is an urgent need to make themedia ın country more democratic and more active. There is also need tomake the media more responsible (such as issues like hate speech, accurateinformation, ethical problems ext.)
