One of the most important sectors in Turkey, which is rich in terms of its natural beauty and historical areas, is undoubtedly the tourism sector. In terms of the contribution to the country’s economy and employment it provides, this sector is growing and developing from day to day. When it comes to the tourism sector, the number of people who prefer to work in this area is increasing on a daily basis due to their advantages, such as the possibility of more vacation places, the diversity of business arms, the lack of demand for high level of education and the accommodation of more free working hours than other sectors. Women are also employed very much in the tourism sector due to these advantages. The sector with the highest employment statistics in Turkey is the tourism sector. As in other sectors, tourism workers are also faced with many challenges. Especially the excess of working hours, the low wages and the seasonal work may be among these challenges. In addition to these challenges, women working in this sector also face additional challenges in their professional and private lives due to problems based on social gender roles. The universe of the study is formed by women tourist guides that operate in Turkey. The aim of the study is to explore the reasons under which women tourist guides prefer day-to-day tour, the challenges they experience in their professional and private lives and the consequences of these challenges. In the study, a semi-configured conversation technique, which is of quality research methods, was used. The women’s tour guides who participated in the study pointed out that they also had positive returns from their professions but also had to deal with only the problems arising from their gender. The majority of these problems are oral and physical harassment.

Tourism is undoubtedly one of the most important industries in Turkey, a country rich in natural beauty and historical sites. In terms of its contribution to the economy of country and the employment it provides, this industry is growing and developing day by day. When it comes to the tourism industry, the number of people who prefer to work in this field is growing due to advantages such as the fact that professions in the industry can be practiced in vacation destinations, a wide variety of branch activities, no higher education level is required, and more flexible working hours when compared to other industries. Women are employed in large numbers in the tourism industry as a result of these advantages. Tourism is the industry in Turkey with the highest female employment statistics. Those working in the tourism industry, like those in other industries, face a number of problems. Among these problems are long working hours, low wages, and the seasonal work. In addition to these issues, women working in this industry face additional problems in both their professional and personal lives as a result of gender roles. The study universe consists of female tour guides working in Turkey. The aim of the study is to investigate the reasons why female tourist guides prefer daily tours, the problems they face in their professional and personal lives, and the consequences of these problems. The semi-structured interview technique, which is one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the study. Female tour guides who participated in the study stated that their profession had positive returns as well, but they also had to deal with issues that arising from their gender. The vast majority of these issues are related to verbal and physical abuse.
