The struggle between Ottomans and Safavids began in the period of Selim I and continued with increases and decreases until the disappearance of Safavids from the stage of history. Additionally, conflicts in political and military relations between the two states had become more frequent in certain periods. Especially the period between Murat III’s reign and the end of Murat IV’s reign represents an era of conflict. In the period between 1578 and 1590 Ottomans were stronger than Safavids. However, between the war in 1603 and 1635, Safavids regained the territories that they had lost. This study aims to clarify the role of Cizre and Beys of Cizre in eastern campaigns which began in Murat III’s reign and continued in Murat IV’s reign - as an Ottoman-Safavid struggle - in the light of Ottoman archive documents and sources from that period.
