İNOVASYON VE EKONOMİK KALKINMA İLİŞKİSİ: ÜST-ORTA GELİRLİ ÜLKELER ÜZERİNE PANEL VERİ ANALİZİ

İnovasyon, ekonomik büyümenin tetikleyicisi ve ekonomik kalkınmanın itici bir gücü olmasıyla birlikte, orta ve uzun vadede ülkelerin rekabetçi yapılarını korumaları ve sürdürebilmelerini sağlayan önemli bir unsur olarak değerlendirilmektedir. Ülkelerin inovasyon faaliyetlerine hız vermesi sosyal refah açısından bir ihtiyaçtır. Bu bağlamda, ekonomik kalkınma ve ekonomik büyüme olguları inovasyonla daha da önemli bir hal almıştır. Dolayısıyla bu çalışmanın amacı üst-orta gelirli ülkelerde inovasyon ve ekonomik kalkınma arasındaki ilişkiyi ortaya koymaktır. Bu amacı gerçekleştirmek için, 2000-2017 dönemine ait veriler kullanılarak seçilmiş 24 üst orta gelirli ülkeler üzerinde inovasyon ve ekonomik kalkınma ilişkisi panel eşbütünleşme testleri ve panel FMOLS ve DOLS katsayı tahmin yöntemleri ile incelenmiştir. Çalışmada değişken olarak, insani kalkınma endeksi, Ar-Ge harcamaları, yerleşik patent başvuruları, bilimsel araştırma ve teknik makale sayısı ile bilgi ve iletişim teknolojileri hizmet ihracatı kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen bulgular, inovasyonun ekonomik kalkınma üzerinde pozitif bir etkisinin olduğunu göstermektedir.

Innovation and Economic Development Relationship: Panel Data Analysis on Top-Middle-Income Countries

Abstract:

While innovation is the trigger of economic growth and a driving force for economic development, it is considered an important element that ensures countries to maintain and maintain their competitive structures in the medium and long term. The country’s acceleration of innovation activities is a need for social well-being. In this context, economic development and economic growth facts have become even more important with innovation. The aim of this study is, therefore, to reveal the relationship between innovation and economic development in high and medium income countries. In order to this goal, the panel of innovation and economic development relationships on the 24 top medium-income countries selected using data from the 2000-2017 period have been studied by panels of integration tests and panel FMOLS and DOLS ratio forecast methods. As a variable in the study, the human development index, R&D expenditure, built-in patent applications, the number of scientific research and technical articles and information and communication technologies services exports have been used. The findings show that innovation has a positive impact on economic development.

Innovation is considered as an important element for countries to protect and maintain their competetive environment in medium and the long run by being driving force for economic development and trigger of economic growth. Accelerating innovation activities in countries is a need for social welfare activities. In this context, development and growth facts have become far more important by innovation. Hence, the purpose of this study is to reveal the relationship between innovation and economic development among middle income countries. For this purpose, the relationship between innovation and economic development on 24 upper-middle income countries was determined by FMOLS and DOLS coefficient estimation methods by obtaining data from the years 2000-2017 after panel cointegration tests. In the analysis, human development index, R&D expenditures, established patent applications, scientific research and technical articles and information and communication technologies service exports were used as variables. The empirical findings obtained from the analysis have indicated that innovation has a positive effect on economic development.
