Abstract This article addresses the issue of migratory circularity, a trend that is neither new nor exclusive to Cuba. However, it has been accentuated in our country since 2013, due to the changes made in Cuban legislation and migration policy. At first, an approach is made to the most frequent definitions in the scientific literature about circular migration, with the purpose of establishing the theoretical-conceptual bases that allow demonstrating its relevance to the current context of Cuba. Subsequently, some international experiences are analyzed ―in particular of circular migration that originates in countries of Latin America and the Caribbean. This facilitates the understanding of the phenomenon and contributes to substantiating its viability for the design of policies in the case of Cuban external migration, identifying opportunities and challenges in the short and medium term.
