Abstract:

With the westernization movements that started in the Ottoman Empire in the 18th century, many changes and transformations took place in the fields of science, art and military, and one pillar of the changes undoubtedly took place in the field of music. The clarinet, one of the western instruments within the Mızıka-yı Hümayun, which was established with the effect of westernization to create a European military band in the process, has found its place in many parts of Anatolia in the process and has been performed by local artists for many years. Tunceli can be cited as an example of the clarinet's journey from Ottoman Palaces to the remote towns of Anatolia. In this study, the ‘Case Study’ method was used to understand the interaction of the clarinet performance in Tunceli with the surrounding provinces and the position of the clarinet in Tunceli music culture, and interviews were made with the resource persons. Besides the historical process of the clarinet in the Tunceli geography, the local performance of this instrument was examined and it was aimed to create a perspective.
