Toplumun en küçük yapı taşı olan aile; biyolojik, ekonomik, hukuksal ve toplumsal yönleri bulunan toplumsal bir birim olarak karşımıza çıkmaktadır. Tarihsel süreç içerisinde toplumsal yapıda meydana gelen her değişim, Türk aile kurumunu yakından etkilemiştir. Geçmişten günümüze maddi ve manevi değerlerin kuşaktan kuşağa aktarılmasında köprü vazifesi gören aile kurumu, toplumsal alanda meydana gelen her değişimin etki ve sonuçlarının en belirgin olarak izlendiği toplumsal kurumların başında gelmektedir. Sanayileşme, modernleşme, kentleşme gibi olgulardan direkt olarak etkilenen aile kurumu ve aile içi ilişkiler, son yıllarda iletişim teknolojilerindeki gelişmelerle birlikte bir dönüşüme uğramıştır. Bireylerin, televizyon, internet, cep telefonu gibi medya teknolojileri aracığıyla evlerinin içinde dış dünya ile bağlantı halinde olması, aile üyeleri ile iletişim konusunda kopukluklar yaşamasını kaçınılmaz hale getirmiştir. Gelişen medya teknolojisi sayesinde sosyal ve duygusal paylaşımlar azalırken, özellikle televizyon ve internet ile birlikte aile, aynı evi paylaşan bireylerden oluşan bir topluluk haline gelmeye başlamıştır. Aile içerisinde sosyal ve duygusal paylaşımların azalması, ilgi, sevgi ve desteğin bu araçlar aracılığıyla karşılanmasına yol açmıştır. Kitle iletişim araçlarının kullanımını yaygınlaşması ile birlikte geleneksel aile yapısında hızlı bir dönüşümün yaşandığı göze çarpmaktadır. Ancak tüm bu etkenlere rağmen Türk aile yapısı, hem çağdaş hem de geleneksel özelliklerini korumaya devam etmektedir. Çalışmada Türk aile yapısının değişim ve dönüşümü ve bu gelişmelere etki eden unsurlar değerlendirilerek, yeni medya teknolojileri başta olmak üzere kitle iletişim araçlarının aile kurumu üzerindeki etkileri kuramsal olarak ele alınmıştır.
The family, the smallest buildingstone in society, appears to us as a social unit with biological, economic, legal and social aspects. Every change in the social structure during the historical process has closely affected the Turkish family institution. The family institution, which sees the bridge role in the transfer of material and spiritual values from the past to the present generation, comes to the head of the social institutions where the effects and consequences of every change that occurs in the social field are most clearly monitored. Family institutions and family relations, directly affected by events such as industrialization, modernization, urbanization, have been transformed in recent years with the advances in communication technologies. The fact that individuals are connected with the outside world within their homes through media technologies such as television, internet, mobile phones has made it inevitable that there are gap in communication with family members. With the advanced media technology, social and emotional sharing decreases, especially with television and the internet, the family has begun to become a community of individuals who share the same home. The decrease in social and emotional sharing within the family has led to the reception of interest, love and support through these tools. With the spread of the use of mass communication means, a rapid transformation in the traditional family structure is seen. But despite all these factors, the Turkish family structure continues to preserve both its contemporary and traditional characteristics. The study assessed the change and transformation of the Turkish family structure and the elements that influenced these developments, the theoretically examined the effects of mass communications tools on the family institution, including new media technologies.

The family institution, which serves as a bridge in the transfer of material and spiritual values from generation to generation, from the past to the present, is one of the leading social institutions in which the effects and consequences of every change in the social field are most clearly monitored. Family institution and family relations, which are directly affected by the facts such as industrialization, modernization, urbanization, have undergone a transformation in recent years with the developments in communication technologies. The fact that individuals are in contact with the outside world inside their homes through media technologies such as television, internet, and mobile phones has made it inevitable for them to experience disconnections with family members. Thanks to the developing media technology, while social and emotional sharing has decreased, especially with television and internet, the family has started to become a community of individuals sharing the same house. The reduction of social and emotional sharing within the family has led to the fulfillment of interest, love and support through these tools. It is remarkable that a rapid transformation has occurred in the traditional family structure with the widespread use of mass media.However, despite all these factors, the Turkish family structure continues to maintain both its contemporary and traditional features. In the study, the change and transformation of the Turkish family structure and the factors affecting these developments were evaluated, and the effects of mass media, especially new media technologies, on the family institution were discussed theoretically.
