This study examines the viewpoints of Jean-Jacques Rousseau, one of the remarkable authors of the Age of Enlightenment in French literature, about women in Emile, Or On Education, a novel dedicated to education. Being named after the main character of the novel, it is based on Emile’s education which sheds light on the theoretical views of the author on education. Having created a tremendous impression when written and published, the novel has a significant place in literature as it is the first book which presents applicable theories in pedagogy. From this point of view, the book may be regarded as a source of inspiration for pedagogical studies rather than literary studies. The novel is based on the plot which describes how the fictional character Emile should be educated and disciplined from his infancy to adulthood. However, this study focuses on a specific topic that is Rousseau’s point of views about female education. Therefore, the quotations and references will be used to put forward how female education is included and handled in the novel.
