Micropollutants tend to accumulate in the ecosystem due to their low biodegradability and pose a great risk for ecosystem with their toxic, carcinogenic and mutagenic effects. Generally micropollutants detected at ng levels even in drinking, surface and ground water might have very high concentrations in hospital wastewater. In our country, the hospital wastewater directly connected to sewage system is discharged into the receiving environment after treating in a pre-treatment or a biological wastewater treatment plant. Advanced treatment methods are needed for micropollutant removal since conventional methods could not be effective. In this study, the treatment of micropollutants in hospital wastewater in membrane bioreactor (MBR) system and the effects of operation parameters on the removal efficiency were evaluated.
