Türklerin milli müzik aleti olan kopuz, gerek İslamiyet öncesi gerekse de İslamiyet’in kabulünden sonraki dönemde manzum halk edebiyatı verimlerinin teşekkülünde oldukça önemli işlevlere sahip olmuştur. Kopuz, Türk kültürel belleğinde yer alan birikiminin muhafazası, aktarımı ve güncellenmesinde, ait olduğu tarihî dönemlere göre şaman, kam, ozan ya da âşık gibi adlar verilen icracılarıyla birlikte, birinci dereceden görev üstlenmiştir. Kopuz ve devamı olan sazların Türk kültür ve edebiyatındaki bu önem ve işlevi, tarihin ilk dönemlerinden itibaren geleneğe verilen değer çerçevesinde bu sazın da kutsanmasına vesile olmuştur. Kopuz ve icracısına addedilen kutsiyet, sadece İslamiyet öncesi Türklere mahsus olmayıp İslamiyet’in kabulü sonrasında da başta Alevi-Bektaşi inancına mensup Türk toplulukları olmak üzere, çeşitli tasavvufi zümreler tarafından da İslam çatısı altında güncellenerek devam ettirilmiştir. Bu bilgi çerçevesinde makalemizde, öncelikle Türklerin İslamiyet’i kabulü ve Anadolu’ya gelişlerinin ardından kopuzun icra durumu hakkında birtakım tespit ve görüşlere yer verilmiştir. Ardından kopuzun İslamiyet çatısı altında icracısıyla birlikte kutsiyetini hangi mecralarda sürdürdüğü hususunda tespit ve değerlendirmeler yapılmıştır. Bu noktada Türk tasavvufu ve Alevi-Bektaşi inancı çerçevesinde âşıklık/zâkirlik geleneği içerisinde kopuz ve ondan türeyen telli saz (bağlama) ile âşıklara/zâkirlere verilen kutsallık geleneğin güncellenmesi bağlamında ele alınarak günümüze kadar gelen süreçte bu kutsiyetin kültürel belleği korumadaki ve aktarmaktaki rolü halk bilimi bakış açısıyla irdelenmiştir.
