Anxiety and fear, which are common topics of different disciplines such as philosophy, psychology, sociology, anthropology and literature, are among the basic emotions of human being. Anxiety is an emotion that a person feels when she/he encounters a stimulus that threatens her/his existence in her/his own self or in the social environment in which she/he lives. Fear is the reaction of the individual to defend himself in the face of perceived danger. Although these terms are being used interchangeably, it is possible to say that they have different meanings. The difference that distinguishes fear from anxiety is the presence of something that is perceived as a threat or seen as a danger. So, while the cause of fear is obvious, the source of anxiety is uncertain. In his stories, Sabahattin Ali generally tells about the fears of the individual who is anxious for different reasons. The author, who focuses on the individual's anxious life in his stories, reveals the fearful moments of the characters in the face of certain situations and events. The aim of this study is to examine Sabahattin Ali's stories in terms of fear and anxiety. In the stories that are the subject of the research, it was concluded that the causes of fear and anxiety in the individual are loneliness, helplessness, death, illness and uncertainty.
