The events of September 6-7, 1955 were a moment in Turkey’s recent history which deeply affected minorities, especially Rum (Greek) citizens, both materially and emotionally. The events started in Istanbul, especially in Beyoğlu, upon the news that the house where Atatürk was born in Salonica had been bombed, and resulted in Rum (Greek of Turkish Nationality) houses and shops being looted.
