For today’s societies, recreation and sport are important elements that reduce the stress of modern life and make positive contributions to the mental and body health. This situation, which is especially important for the young population, reveals an undeniable reality for a stronger generation. In this context, it is very important for sustainable planning which motivations are effective on the intention of young people to do recreational sports in the future. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of hedonic and utilitarian value on young people’s intention to engage in recreational sports in the future. Within the scope of the research, a questionnaire was conducted on 162 young people engaged in recreational activities in a public sports facility in the central district of Adıyaman. As a result of the correlation analysis of the data, both hedonic and utilitarian values were found to be effective on the intention of young people to do recreational sports in the future. However, in the regression analysis, it was determined that both values positively and significantly affected the intention of young people to do sports in the future, while hedonic value was found to be relatively more effective than utilitarian value. Finally, regarding the findings, opinions and suggestions are presented.
