Abstract:

Before the First World War, one of the most important turning points in modern world history, the issue of the sharing of the present Middle East geography was at the forefront of the most serious controversy between the Great Powers. From the second half of the 19th century, this international political issue, placed in the first rows of the agenda as the Eastern Problem, has become one of the most important issues of discussion of the Ottoman-Turkish light in the last period as civil-armed state men. Especially the II. Many publications with different ideological approaches have published important articles during this period; their political orientations have created one of the common points of these publications, especially concerns about the future of the Ottoman State, and generally the Islamic world. One of the thinkers who wrote valuable articles about the situation of the Ottoman State in the framework of the future of the Islamic world in the process of advancing to the First World War is Ahmet Ağaoğlu. Agaoğlu, one of the leading names of the Ottoman thought life and the idea of Turkish nationalism in the last period, has in this process received articles about international politics and the Ottoman State in different press bodies. In this study, with the focus of two important articles published in Sırat-i Müstakim, which were highlighted by Ağaoğlu as one of the important publishing bodies of the period, the other articles published in the same magazine between 1910-1915 years will also be used to try to periodically reveal his ideas about the Great Powers, the Ottoman State and the Islamic World. In this context, Agaoğlu’s international and regional analyses will try to identify the Islamic world, the Ottoman State and the Hilafet institution focused on the situation and the approach to the future projection.

The sharing of the present-day Middle East was one of the serious disputes between the Great Powers before the First World War, as one of the most important turning points in the history of the modern world. This international political issue, which had been at the top of the agenda named as the Eastern Question since the second half of the 19th century, had also been one of the leading discussions of the Ottoman-Turkish intellectuals as well as the civil-military statesmen. Within this framework, in the several different media organs during the Second Constitutional Period of the Ottoman Empire, important articles were published on this issue. Despite their different ideological approaches, nearly all these press organs reflected the concern about the future of the Empire and the Islamic World, in common. Ahmet Ağaoğlu was one of the scholars who wrote significant articles about the situation of the Ottoman Empire within the framework of the future of the Islamic World during the years towards the First World War. As one of the leading names of the late Ottoman intellectual life and the idea of Turkish Nationalism. In this study, by taking two important articles of him that were published in Sırat-ı Müstakim, as one of the most important magazines of the period, to the center, his ideas on the international politics, Ottoman Empire and the Islamic World will try to be analyzed. Within this effort, his other articles in Sırat-ı Müstakim on the same issue between 1910-1915 will also taken into consideration. In this context, not only the regional and the intertational political analysis of Ağaoğlu, but also his evaluations on the state of the Ottomans and his future projection on the Islamic World will also try to be examined.
