Abstract:

In the tourism sector, events have an important place in terms of the promotion of cultural values, the development of the economy and the attraction of tourists to the destinations. But considering the environmental effects of the activities, thousands of tons of waste can cause negative effects, such as the destruction of natural and cultural assets by creating environmental pollution. “Eco-activities” have emerged in recent years, a new type of activity to reduce the negative impact of events on the environment. This study focuses on sustainable tourism and has conducted a conceptual study on what eco-activities are and why they are necessary. It has also been provided information about the organization of A Greener Festival, one of the international institutions and organizations that assess ecological events. The purpose of the research is to identify the necessary ecological practices to make the events or festivals sustainable by classifying the awards awarded at the A Greener Festival Awards. The eco-applications of the awards awarded by the civil society organization "A Greener Festival" in 2017 in 4 branches (elect, high-level recommended, recommended, developing) were studied and the activities in the categories of high-level and high-level recommended were analyzed by content analysis from quality research methods. The study found that the award-winning festivals in four branches implement sustainable activities (such as waste management, used materials) in the festivals and are aware of having a sustainable environment.
