İletişim teknolojileri, 21.yy. başlarında kazandığı ivmeyle bireyin iletişim alışkanlıklarında köklü değişimler meydana getirmektedir. İnternet erişim olanaklarının artması ve mobil iletişim teknolojilerinin yaygınlaşmasıyla birlikte ortaya çıkan sosyal medya mecraları, özellikle gençler arasında popülerliğini her geçen gün artırmaya devam etmekte, sunduğu fırsatlar kadar çeşitli riskler de içermektedir. Kullanıcıların kendilerini görünür kılma, kimliklerini kamuya sunma alanına dönüşen sosyal medya mecraları, mahremiyet kavramını da derin bir dönüşüme tabi tutmaktadır. Sosyal medya kullanıcılarının sosyal medya üzerindeki ifşa boyutları düşünüldüğünde adeta mahremiyetin ortadan kalktığı görülmektedir. Dijital ebeveynlerin sosyal medyada mahremiyet algısını konu edinen bu çalışmada, sosyal medya platformlarını aktif kullanan sekiz ebeveyn ile yüzyüze ve yarı yapılandırılmış görüşmeler gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bulgular genel olarak değerlendirildiğinde üç ana sonuca ulaşılmıştır. İlk olarak, mahremiyeti özel ve gizli alan olarak tanımlayan dijital ebeveynler, sosyal medyanın gizliliği olumsuz etkilediğini düşünmektedir. İkincisi, ebeveynler çocukların sosyal medyada kolayca erişilebilir olduklarından istismarcıların hedefi olduğunu belirtmektedir. Son olarak, sosyal medyadaki çocuklarının mahremiyetini korumak isteyen ebeveynler, kısıtlama, bilinçlendirme ve çeşitli denetim yöntemlerine başvurduklarını belirtmektedir.
Communication Technology, 21st century. With the momentum it earns in the beginning, the individual makes radical changes in communication habits. The social media scores that arise with the increased access to the internet and the spread of mobile communication technologies, especially among young people, continue to increase their popularity every day, and include a variety of risks as the opportunities they offer. The social media platforms that make users themselves visible, become the area of their identity to the public, the concept of privacy is also subject to a profound transformation. When considering the dimensions of social media users’ disclosure on social media, it seems that privacy has disappeared. In this study on the perception of the privacy of digital parents on social media, eight parents who actively use social media platforms have been conducted face-to-face and semi-configured conversations. When the findings were evaluated in general, three main findings were achieved. First, digital parents who define privacy as a private and secret area believe that social media has a negative impact on privacy. Secondly, parents point out that abuse is the target of the children because they are easily accessible on social media. Finally, parents who want to protect their children’s privacy on social media indicate that they have applied to restriction, awareness and various methods of control.
With the acceleration gained in the early years of 21st century, communication technologies creates fundamental changes in the communication habits of the individual. Social media channels, which have emerged with the increase in internet access opportunities and the spread of mobile communication technologies, continue to increase their popularity, especially among young people, and include various risks as well as opportunities. Social media channels, which turn into the field of making users visible and presenting their identities to the public, also undergo a deep transformation of the concept of privacy. Considering the disclosure dimensions of social media users on social media channels, it is seen that privacy is virtually eliminated. In this study, which is about digital parents' perception of privacy on social media, face-to-face and semi-structured interviews were conducted with eight parents who actively use social media platforms. When the findings were evaluated in general, three main conclusions were reached. First, digital parents, who define privacy as private and confidential, think that social media has a negative impact on privacy. Second, parents state that children are the target of exploiters because they are easily accessible on social media. Lastly, parents who want to protect the privacy of their children in social media state that they use restriction, awareness raising and various control methods.
