It is aimed to determine whether patient rights awareness has a mediating effect on the effect of e-health (electronic health) literacy on patient participation in decisions. The universe of the study includes individuals over the age of 18 who reside in Sakarya and have received service from the same doctor at least twice in the same hospital. The sample of the study consists of 386 people who agreed to participate in the research between 01/07/2021 and 01/08/2021. A questionnaire form consisting of four parts (Socio-Demographic Information Form, E-Health Literacy Scale, Patient Rights Awareness Scale, and Participation in Decisions Scale) was used as a data collection tool in the research. SPSS and Smart PLS 3 programs were used in the analysis of the data, descriptive statistical methods and reliability analyzes were performed in the SPSS program, and structural equation model analysis was performed in the Smart PLS program. While e-health literacy levels of patients positively affect their awareness of patient rights, it does not affect their participation in decisions. In addition, patient rights awareness levels affect their participation in decisions. Patient rights awareness levels have a mediating role in the effect of e-health literacy levels on their participation in decisions. Individuals should be informed about how to obtain health-related information from internet sources accurately and reliably, their knowledge and skills on patient rights should be developed, and they should be sensitized about participation in decisions in health care services.
