The rate of growth of the Cuban population brings with it an increase in life expectancy, a decrease in the birth rate, changes in the structure and size of families, with an increase in the population of 60 years and over; situation that will worsen in the coming years. It is projected that by 2025 those over the age of 60 will reach a quarter of the population and the expense for pension payments will grow from 4.9 billion pesos in 2010 to more than 5.9 billion pesos. Fundamentally given by: the number of pensions in force in the system, the new pensions that are granted each year, the salary, the formulas for calculating the amounts of the pensions and the aging of the economically active population.
