The metabolic syndrome is treated by the combination of drugs and change in lifestyle, mainly dietary habits. This article discusses the importance of the use of fiber in the treatment dietoterápico of metabolic syndrome since the soluble dietary fiber (pectin, guar gum-, mucilage) and insoluble (cellulose, lignin, hemicellulose) has direct action on the components of it, as role in blood glucose, reduction of serum cholesterol, help in reducing body weight and action, even if slight, reducing the pressure levels.
