Osmanlı Devleti’nde salnameler, II. Abdülhamit’in iktidara çıkmasından sonra daha da düzeli bir biçimde yayınlanmaya başlamıştır. Bu salnamelerde; hangi vilayet adına tanzim edilmiş ise o vilayet ve vilayetlere bağlı sancaklarda yer alan kurumlar ve bu kurumların yöneticileri, sancakların eğitim ve sosyo-kültürel yapıları, adli ve ekonomik durumları ile ilgili bilgiler yer almaktadır. Günümüze kadar ulaşabilen vilayet salnameleri arasında Halep Vilayet Salnameleri de bulunmaktadır. Halep vilayetine ait ilk salname 1867 senesine aittir. 1867 yılından 1908 yılına kadar Halep Vilayeti ile ilgili 35 ayrı salname düzenlenmiştir. Bu çalışmada, 1882-1892 tarihleri arasında yayınlanmış olan Halep salnameleri ile Osmanlı arşivlerinde yer alan Halep ve Maraş ile ilgili belgeler incelenerek Maraş polis teşkilatının ne zaman kurulduğu ortaya çıkarılmaya çalışılmıştır.
The salnames in the Ottoman state was started to be published more regularly after II. Abdulhamit had come to power. In these salnames, information about that province and the institutions located in the sanjak depending on the provinces and the managers of these institutions, legal and economic conditions, education and social cultural structures of the sanjaks were included. One of the provincial salnames that reach to date is also Aleppo provincial salnames. The first salname of the Aleppo province belongs to the year 1867. Salname about the province of Aleppo was arranged 35 times from aforesaid 1867 to 1908. This study, the Aleppo salnames published between 1882-1892 and the documents related to Aleppo and Maraş in the Ottoman archives were examined to determine when the Maraş police force was established.
