Bu araştırmanın amacı, Sosyal Bilgiler dersi 5., 6. ve 7. sınıf öğretim programında yer alan ve geliştirme ve pekiştirme düzeyinde öğrencilere verilen “kanıt” kavramının sekizinci sınıf öğrencileri tarafından nasıl algılandığını incelemektir. Araştırma, nitel araştırma desenlerinden olan olgu bilim deseninde gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırmada mecazlar yoluyla veri toplama, yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme ve doküman analizi birlikte kullanılmıştır. Verilerin çözümlenmesinde ve yorumlanmasında içerik analizi yapılmıştır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubu; 2016-2017 eğitim-öğretim yılında alt, orta ve üst gelişmişlik düzeye sahip yerleşim yerlerindeki okullarda maksimum çeşitlilik örnekleme yöntemiyle seçilen; alt gelişmişlik düzeyde 252 (%36,36), orta gelişmişlik düzeyde 211 (%30,45) ve üst gelişmişlik düzeyde 230 (%33,19) olmak üzere toplam 693 sekizinci sınıf öğrencisinden oluşmaktadır. Araştırma sonucunda; gelişmişlik düzey farkı gözetilmeksizin katılımcıların büyük bir çoğunluğu kanıt kavramını “tarihi gerçeklerin fotoğrafını zihnimizde canlandıran, tarihi bilgileri doğru olarak yansıtan bir ayna ve ayak izleri, değerli bilgileri içeren bir karne ve bilgi hazinesi”, “tarihin karanlık noktalarını aydınlatan, geleceğe ışık tutan, tarih yolculuğunda rotayı belirleyen trafik işaretleri” şeklinde algıladıkları görülürken alt ve orta gelişmişlik düzeyde katılımcıların çoğu “tarihi gerçekleri ortaya çıkaran, soru işaretlerini gideren, tarihin parmak izleri” olarak algıladıkları belirlenmiştir. Alt gelişmişlik düzeydeki katılımcıların bir kısmı “verdiği bilgiyle bizleri doğru tarihe götüren, geçmişi bugüne taşıyan, tarihsel bilgileri ispatlayan, geçmiş tarihin hafızası” olarak algılarlarken orta ve üst gelişmişlik düzeydeki katılımcıların “tarihi bulmacaları çözen bir şifre, eksik kalmış tarihi bilgileri tamamlayan değerli bir yama” olarak algıladıkları tespit edilmiştir.
The purpose of the research is to investigate 8th grade students’ perceptions towards the concept of “evidence” included in the 5th, 6th, and 7th grade Social Studies curriculum and was taught to students at development and consolidation levels. The study was carried out by phenomenology method, one of the qualitative research designs. Metaphors, semi-structured interviews, and document analysis were used together in the research for data collection. Content analysis was administered for the analysis and interpretation of data. The population of the research consisted of a total of 693 8th grade students studying in the schools located in settlements with low, middle, and high levels of development and chosen via maximum variation sampling method in 2016-2017 academic year. In addition, out of 693 students, 252 (%36,36) of them are low level of development, 211(%30,45) are at middle level of development, and 230 (%33,19) are at high level of development. As a result of the study, it was determined that without considering level of development, most of the participants perceived the concept of evidence as “reviving the photographs of historical facts in our minds, a mirror and footprints which reflect the historical information correctly, a report and a mine of information”, “traffic signs which illuminate the dark sides of history, shed light on the future, and determine the route on a journey in history” but most of the participants at middle and high levels of development perceived history as “finger prints of history which reveal historical facts and eliminate question marks”. While some of the participants at low level of development perceived history as “the memory of past history which takes us to the true history with its knowledge, bring past to the present, and prove historical knowledge”, it was determined that the participants at middle and high levels of development perceived history as “a code that solves historical puzzles, a valuable patch that complements the incomplete historical knowledge”.
