Modern Arap edebiyatının önde gelen yazarlarından biri olan ve aynı zamanda Arap tarihi romanının kurucusu olarak kabul edilen Lübnan asıllı Corci Zeydan edebiyat dünyasına birçok eser kazandırmıştır. Özellikle tarih, dil ve edebiyat konularında Batı metoduna uygun eserler veren Zeydan, Emeviler, Abbasiler ve Osmanlılar gibi çoğu Arap ve İslam tarihinin dönemlerini anlatan yirmi bir tane tarihi roman kaleme almıştır. Yazarın edebiyatçı yönünden çok tarihçi yönünü ortaya çıkararak yazdığı bu eserler, roman türüne değer kazandıran ilk ürünler olmuştur. Bunları romanın eğitici rolüne önem vererek ve toplumun isteklerini karşılayabilme amacıyla yazan Zeydan, bu konuda oldukça başarılı olmuştur. Ayrıca Zeydan’ın romanlarında yer verdiği tarihi olayları, okuyucunun daha kalıcı bir şekilde öğrenebilmesi için roman çatısı altında sunması, hem okurlar hem de yazarlar arasındaki popülerliğini oldukça arttırmış, özellikle birçok yazar ondan etkilenerek tarihi roman yazmaya başlamıştır. Corci Zeydan, tarihi romanlarında gerek Arap toplumunun gerekse bu toplumda yaşayan farklı milletten insanların dünden bugüne yaşadıklarını, kat ettikleri yolları, ulaştıkları medeniyet seviyesini ve içerisinde bulundukları dönemin durumunu okuyucuya yansıtmaya çalışmıştır. Özellikle onların toplumda var olmasını sağlayan dil, din, kültür gibi unsurları ön plana çıkarmıştır. Bu bağlamda, çalışmamızda Corci Zeydan’ın öne çıkan üç romanında ele aldığı hem gerçek hem de kurgusal ana karakterleri, toplumsal yapı dâhilinde inceleyerek hem birbirleriyle olan ilişkilerini hem de bunun topluma yansımasını ve bu karakterlerin yaşadığı dönemdeki toplumsal çerçeveyi görmeye çalışacağız.
Corci Zeydan of Lebanon, one of the leading authors of modern Arab literature and also known as the founder of the Arab historical novel, has gained many works to the literary world. Specifically in history, language and literature, Zeydan, the Emevians, the Abbasians and the Ottomans have received twenty-one historical novels that tell the periods of Arab and Islamic history. The works that the writer has written, revealing his very historical aspect from the literary point of view, have been the first products to gain value to the genre of novel. Zeydan, who wrote this with attention to the educational role of the novel and in order to meet the wishes of the society, has been very successful in this. In addition, Zeydan's historical events in his novels, the presentation under the roof of the novel so that the reader can learn more permanently, has greatly increased its popularity among both readers and writers, especially many writers have begun to write historical novels with his influence. Corci Zeydan, in his historical novels, tried to reflect to the reader what people from different peoples living in this society have lived from yesterday to today, the ways they have passed, the level of civilization they have reached, and the state of the time they are in. It has given priority to the elements such as language, religion, and culture that make them exist in society. In this context, in our work, we will try to see the real and fictional main characters, which Corci Zeydan addresses in the three outstanding novels, both within the social structure, and their relationships with each other as well as the reflection of it to society and the social framework in the period in which these characters live.
One of the leading writers of modern Arabic literature and also considered the founder of the Arabic historical novel, Corci Zeydan of Lebanese descent has contributed many works to the world of literature. Zeydan has written twenty-one historical novels, most of which describe the periods of Arab and Islamic history, such as the Umayyads, Abbasids and Ottomans. These works were the first to bring value to the novel genre by revealing the author's historicist side rather than the literaturist side. Zeydan, who wrote them with an emphasis on the educational role of the novel and in order to meet the wishes of the society, has been quite successful in this regard. In addition, Zeydan's presentation of historical events in his novels under the roof of the novel in order for the reader to learn more permanently increased his popularity among both readers and writers, and especially many writers were influenced by him and began to write historical novels. In his historical novels, Corci Zeydan tried to reflect to the reader the experiences of both the Arab society and the people of different nationalities living in this society from yesterday to today, the paths they have come through, the level of civilization they have reached and the state of the period they were in. He particularly emphasized the elements such as language, religion, and culture that enable people to exist in society. In this context, in our study, by examining both the real and fictional main characters of Corci Zeydan's three prominent novels within the social structure, we will try to see both their relationships with each other and their reflections on society and the social framework of the period in which these characters lived.
