Bu çalışmada Türk modernleşmesi sürecinde kadınların müzik alanındaki etkinliği ve konumları tartışılmaktadır. Bu doğrultuda özellikle Osmanlı Devleti’nde başlayan modernleşme çabalarından itibaren başlayan erken dönem Cumhuriyet’e geçiş sürecindeki müzik politikaları toplumsal cinsiyet perspektifinden değerlendirilmiştir. Bu bağlamda modernite ve modernleşme kavramlarının eril karakterli oluşundan yola çıkılarak Türkiye’de modernleşen müziğin de erilliğine işaret edilmekte ve bu anlamda bir sürekliliğe ve geçişliliğe işaret edilmektedir. Diğer taraftan bu çalışmanın odaklandığı sürecin özellikle modernleşme sürecini kapsaması nedeniyle rejim değişikliğinin yaşandığı dönemle sınırlandırılmaya çalışılmasına dikkat edilmiştir. Ayrıca yine söz konusu alan olarak müziğin oldukça çeşitli türleri kapsaması nedeniyle, müzikte modernleşme çabalarının çoksesli klasik Batı Müziği’ni referans alan bir dönüşüm yaşandığı göz önüne alınarak, müzikte kadınların konumu bu bağlamda değerlendirilmiştir. Yine bu çerçevede modernleşme sürecinde de pekişmiş olan müzikte kadınların görünürlüğüne ve ne denli etkili olabildiklerine ilişkin bir tespit yapılmaya çalışılmıştır. Böyle bir çalışma nihayetinde bir tür yorumlama girişimi olduğu için ikincil kaynaklara dayalı literatür taraması yoluyla yürütülmüştür.
In this study, the activities and positions of women in the field of music in the Turkish modernization process are discussed. In this direction, music policies in the transition period to the early Republic, which started especially with the modernization efforts that started in the Ottoman Empire, were evaluated from the perspective of gender. In this context, starting from the masculine character of the concepts of modernity and modernization, the masculinity of modernized music in Turkey is also pointed out, and in this sense, continuity and transitivity are pointed out. On the other hand, due to the fact that the process that the study focuses on covers the modernization process, attention has been paid to try to limit it to the period of regime change. In addition, the position of women in music has been evaluated in this context, taking into account that modernization efforts in music have undergone a transformation that references polyphonic classical Western Music, since music as a subject area covers quite a variety of genres. Again, within this framework, it has been tried to make a determination about the visibility of women and how effective they can be in music, which has also been strengthened in the modernization process. Such a study was ultimately conducted through a literature review based on secondary sources, as it was an attempt at interpretation.
