Muvatta’, Mâlik b. Enes tarafından te’lif edilmiş, sahih rivâyetleri ihtiva eden bir hadis ve fıkıh kaynağıdır. Eserde, önemli miktarda mevkûf hadis de yer almaktadır. Muvatta’da yer alan mevkûf hadislerden bazıları hükmen merfûdur. Müellif Mâlik b. Enes ve onun görüşlerini benimseyenlere göre Muvatta’daki bütün hadisler, dolayısıyla muhtevasındaki mevkûf hadisler sahihtir. Müellifin fıkhî mülahazayla tasnif ettiği eserinde merfû hadisler kadar mevkûf hadislere de yer vermesi, sahâbî kavline verdiği önemi göstermektedir. O, Muvatta’da birçok hükme mesned olarak sahâbî içtihadına yer vermekte, bazen merfû rivâyete rağmen farklı deliller bulunmasından dolayı mevkûf rivâyeti tercih etmektedir. Müellif, bazen de sıhhat şartlarına uyan bazı mevkûf hadislere eserinde yer vermesine rağmen, Kur’an ve diğer hadislerdeki delilleri göz önüne alarak farklı bir hükme varmış ve onlarla amel etmemiştir. Al-Muwaṭṭa is a source of ḥadīth and fiqh, which contains ṣaḥīḥ narrations and was quoted by Mālik b. Anas. There is a significant amount of mawqūf ḥadīths in the al-Muwaṭṭa and some of them are marfūʿ ḥadīths. According to the author Mālik b. Anas and those who adopt his views, all the hadiths in al-Muwaṭṭa, and therefore the mawqūf ḥadīths in their content are ṣaḥīḥs. The fact that the author has included mawqūf ḥadīths as well as marfūʿ ḥadīths in his work, which he wrote with fiqhī purpose, shows the importance he attaches to the word of the Companions. He uses the Companions' view as a basis for many judgments in al-Muwaṭṭa, and sometimes he prefers the mawqūf narration due to the presence of different evidence despite the marfūʿ narrations. Although the author sometimes includes some mawqūf ḥadīths in his work that comply with the conditions of health, he came to a different judgment by taking the evidence in the Qurʾān and other ḥadīths into consideration and did not act with them.
