Şirketler, gerçekleştirdikleri her türlü faaliyetin yanında ekonomideki gelişmeleri de takip etmek zorundadırlar. Bir şirketin firma değeri, ekonomide yaşanacak olumlu veya olumsuz gelişmelerin yanında firma tarafından yürütülen faaliyetlerin yerine getirilmesi aşamasında ortaya çıkabilecek gelişmelerden de etkilenmektedir. Buradan yola çıkarak ekonomistler, herhangi bir sektör ya da firma ile ilgili yaşanan olumlu veya olumsuz gelişmelerin firma değeri üzerindeki etkilerini ölçmeye çalışırlar. Normal şartlarda bir olayın firma değeri üzerindeki etkisinin ölçülmesi kolay değildir. Ancak olay çalışması yöntemiyle halka açık şirketlerin piyasa bilgilerini kullanmak suretiyle firmanın piyasa değerindeki dalgalanmalar kolayca tespit edilebilmektedir Bu çalışmada pay senetleri Borsa İstanbul’da (BİST) işlem gören bir havayolu şirketinin yaşadığı son üç uçak kazasının, piyasada işlem gören pay senetleri üzerindeki etkisi incelenmektedir. Bu çerçevede havayolu şirketinin ve şirketin bünyesinde bulunduğu BİST Ulaştırma (XULAS) Endeksinin uçak kazaları tarihlerinden önceki on gün ve sonrasındaki on günlük süredeki pay senedi fiyatlarındaki değişimler, olay çalışması (event study) yöntemiyle analiz edilmiştir. Yapılan analiz sonucunda, havayolu şirketinin yaşadığı uçak kazalarının şirketin pay senetleri üzerinde negatif yönlü bir etkisinin olduğu tespit edilmiştir.
Companies, in addition to all activities they carry out, must also monitor the developments in the economy. The company’s value is influenced by the positive or negative developments in the economy, as well as the developments that may occur at the stage of the performance of the activities carried out by the company. From here, economists try to measure the impact of positive or negative developments in any sector or company on the company’s value. It is not easy to measure the impact of an event on the company’s value in normal conditions. However, by using the method of the event study public companies’ market information, the company’s market value fluctuations can be easily detected In this study, the shareholders are examined by the last three aircraft crashes in which an airline is treated in Borsa Istanbul (BIST) and the impact on the shareholders are treated in the market. In this framework, the changes in the share price in the 10 days before and 10 days after air crash dates of the BIST Transportation Index (XULAS) within the airline and the company were analyzed by the event study method. The analysis found that the aircraft crashes in which the airline was affected had a negative impact on the company’s shares.
