Abstract:

The removal of the Yençeri Ocağı during the second Mahmud period is the basis of the relief that will be made during the Tanzimat period. After that, the regular transition to the army has gained speed. Then the armies were established according to the regions, divided into classes within themselves, and commandments according to the ranges were awarded. During the Sultan Abdülmecid period, the army continued and European-style peasants, cavaliers and gunmen troops were established. On the other hand, the state has divided the army units into groups to reduce the military burden and to be better organized, including forced units, reserve forces, assistant forces, captivity units, volunteers and paid units. During the Sultan Abdülaziz period, the arrangements made in the previous military areas have been revised. The historians distinguished the period between 1861-1869 as the first period, and the period between 1869-1876 as the second period. The second period is the period in which Serasker Hussein Avni Pasha organized the army and had great efforts in the shifts. Midhat Pasha, in Baghdad, conducted governance and the Sixth Army Command together between 1869-1872. The article discusses the efforts of Midhat Pasha to implement militia in the Sixth Army in Baghdad and its surroundings.
