Kore Savaşı hem II. Dünya Savaşı sonrası yaşanan ilk sıcak çatışma olması ve hem de, Türkiye’nin sınırları dışında gerçekleşen bir savaşa katılması nedeniyle de oldukça önemlidir. Birleşmiş Milletlerin çağrısına uyan ilk ülkelerden birisi olan Türkiye, savaş süresince ve hatta savaştan sonra bölgede oluşturulan Barış Gücü için asker göndermeye devam etmiştir. Türkiye’nin hemen her yerinden daha önce adını bile duymadıkları bir bölgede sürmekte olan savaşa giden Türk askerinin Kore’de gösterdiği başarılar, savaşın seyrini değiştirmiştir. Savaşta şehit olan ve kaybolan askerlerin dışında Türkiye’ye dönenlere, “gazi” unvanı verilerek ekonomik ve sosyal haklardan faydalanmaları sağlanmıştır. Bu çalışma Kore gazilerinin savaşa ilişkin deneyim ve algılarını öğrenmek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Araştırmada nitel yöntem benimsenmiş ve geliştirilen görüşme formu aracılığıyla Amasya ili Merzifon ilçesinde yaşayan Kore gazileriyle derinlemesine görüşme yapılmıştır. Araştırmanın en önemli sonucu, dönemin basınında sıkça dile getirilen, konu hakkında yazılan araştırmalarda da belirtilen “gönüllülük” konusunun görüşülen gazilerden birisi hariç diğerleri için söz konusu olmamasıdır. Bir başka sonuç ise, kamuoyunda oluşan “dünya barışını kurtarma” amacının görüşülen gaziler tarafından paylaşılmamasıdır. Ayrıca gaziler, savaşın taraflarını bilmediklerinden dönemin kitle iletişim araçları olan gazete ve radyoda belirtildiğinin aksine, savaşı komünizm-demokrasi ekseninde değerlendirmemektedir. Araştırmanın bir diğer önemli sonucu, görüşülen gazilerden hiç birinin savaş hakkında bilgisi olmamasıdır.
Korean War is so important that it is the first hot battle after World War II. and Turkey participated in a war beyond her borders. Turkey is one of the first countries, which respond UN call, and she continued to send troops for the Peace Force in the region during and after the war. The successed of the soldiers, who went to fight in a battle, which was placed in a country they had known before, Besides the losts and martyrs of the War, the ones who returned took title of Ghazi and benefited from social and economic rights. This study was conducted to learn experience and perceptions of Korean Ghazis. Qualitaive analysis was made in the survey and deep interviews were conducted with Korean Ghazis, who reside in Merzifon Amasya, by means of developed forms. The most important result of the research is that the “volunteerism” issue, which was often expressed in the press, was never the case for none of the interviewed ghazis except one of them. Another result is that the ghazis interviewed did not share the objective of “rescuing the peace in the world” Besides that the ghazis did not elaborate the war as between communism and democracy since they did not know about the parties. Another important result of the research is that the interviewed ghazis had no knowledge about the war.
