Abstract:

With Berlin Treaty of 1878, Armenian problem (question) took on a dimension in the international arena. European states’ undertaking of wardship (guardianship) of the Armenians further encouraged the Armenians that were making preparation for a wide-scale rebellion. Living together Turks (Turkish People) in Anatolia, the Armenians began to massacre against their neighbours, that is, Turks in order to change majority of population in their favour in the regions where they are. By organizing attacks to Turkish settlements at unexpected moments, the Armenians both martyrized the Turks and burnt (burned) their houses and goods setting on fire. Furious (Crazed) Armenian bandits made actions (movements) of systematic massacre and rubbery (loot/plunder) against Turks by taking joint action with missionaries that were in service (were carrying on activity) under the guise of religious functionary in places where they were living. As is in other regions of Ottoman Empire, Zeitun Armenians in Marash Sanjak also rebelled during Armenian Rebellions of 1895. Armenians of Yenicekale Subdistrict made massacres in settlements in the environment by acting (moving) in cooperation with the Zeitun Armenian Bandit. Also Italian Franciscan priests (friars) who were carrying on activity in the village ‘‘Mucuk Deresi’’ affiliated (connected) to Yenicakale Subdistrict were in cooperation with the Armenians under the guise of religious functionary. the Armenian events in Yenicekale subdistrict during the Armenian Rebellions of 1895 will be addressed in this study.
