Özet:

The research is a phenomenologically patterned qualitative study comparing grandmothers' experiences of raising children and grandchildren and parenting approaches of grandmothers and parents. Fourteen grandmothers, aged 50 to 60 years, participated in the study. The criteria determined for participation in the research are raising their children and raising their grandchildren because both parents are working. The ages of the grandchildren raised by the participants ranged from one to six years old. Data were collected through a semi-structured interview form. The data of the research were analyzed via content analysis. According to the findings of the study, when the grandmothers' experiences of raising grandchildren and raising children are compared, it is observed that it differs in terms of showing interest / care, showing love, taking time, giving priority, punishing, being patient / tolerant, responsibility, doing research, teaching values and apologizing. In terms of partnerships, it has been determined that there are similarities in care methods, value teaching, showing love, applying rules, showing interest / caring, and playing games, respectively. When the approaches of grandparents to the child are compared, it is seen that they show similarities in terms of discipline methods, maintenance methods, and value teaching. In terms of differences, it was found that they differ in terms of setting boundaries, punishing, care methods, showing interest, having a common attitude of parents, rewarding and showing patience, respectively. In line with the findings, it is seen that grandmothers and parents have similar attitudes while raising children, but grandmothers try not to repeat the methods they find inappropriate while raising their grandchildren. In the study, there was no evidence that the generation difference between grandmothers and parents could be an area of conflict.
