Abu Zayd Aḥmad bin Sahl al-Balkhi (850-934), who drew attention in the history of Islamic thought with his multidisciplinary personality, is the author of the book Maṣāliḥ al-abdān wa’l-anfus (Sustenance/Recovery of the body and soul). In his book, he complains that although many books about physical health have been written until his time, not many works related to mental health have been written and he claims that his work is the first in this regard. According to him, mental disorders are more common than physical disorders, and the extent to which people are affected by these diseases depends on individual differences. The diagnoses made by Belhi regarding mental illnesses are beyond his own time. This study aims to evaluate Belhī's ideas about mental health by considering the psychology science of today. The question we are trying to answer is: Is there any equivalent to Balḫī's suggestions from the tenth century on mental illnesses in today's Psychology?
