Abstract:

Ibn Juzayy’s tafsir entitled Kitâbut-Teshîl li Ulûmi’t-Tenzîl is one of the rare tafsirs of the Andalusian tafsir tradition that has reached us in complete form. Zamakhshari’s al-Kashshaf and Ibn Atiyya's al-Muhararu’l-Wajiz are the main sources of this work. Although this is the case, unlike Zamakhshari and Ibn Atiyya, Ibn Juzayy gives very little space to poetry and showing evidence through poetry in his tafsir. It can be said that the reasons for this are that the period of evidence is over, that he included a Qur’an dictionary of about 600 words in the introduction of his tafsir, and his desire to write a concise commentary. Our study aims to reveal the commentator’s approach to poetry and the method of showing evidence using poetry while interpreting the Qur’an. In this context, the article discusses issues such as the brief history of showing evidence using poetry, how this was determined as a method in tafsir and in the Arabic language, the characteristics sought in the poems to be shown as evidence, and the place of poets whose poems were shown as evidence. In the Kitâbut-Teshîl, the method adopted by the commentator on this subject is clearly revealed by showing in which areas and in what way poetry and showing evidence are used through examples
