The justice system in the United States is one of the most unique in the world and the US is renowned for having one of the most sophisticated judicial systems. It consists of two separate levels of courts, state and federal, which can peacefully co-exist under the concept of federalism. The U.S. legal system is in part inherited from English common law and depends on an adversarial system of justice. The United States has a "dual court system" consisting of state courts that primarily hear civil and criminal cases related to state laws and state constitutional issues, and federal courts that primarily hear civil and criminal cases related to federal laws, U.S. treaties and the U.S. Constitution. Although each state is free to organize its own court organization, most states justice systems have several features in common. Important features of the federal and state-level organization of the American court; have a dual court system, system to keep at the forefront of the principles of competition, have flexible structures in the system and the protection of local values.
