Abstract:

This study aims at determining the difficulties faced during the process intended to improve students’ written expression skills which has become a significant part of Turkish language course. To that end, 10 classroom teachers and Turkish language teachers who work in various districts of Samsun were interviewed. Data of this study were collected through semi-structured interview method during the spring term of 2012-2013 training and education year. Data obtained from this study were analysed through descriptive analysis technique. Based on teachers’ opinions, students may be said to have serious problems in written expression activities. Teachers stated that students were reluctant to write and they did not like writing activities. Teachers’ opinions about the course books and workbooks used in Turkish language courses showed that they thought the activities included in these books to be far beyond the students’ level and students had difficulty and reluctance in conducting these activities.
