Gündelik yaşantımızda sıradan insanların kendi yaşantılarından ve anlatılardan hareket eden sözlü tarih verileri toplumsal yaşamda kültürün birer yansımasıdır. Toplumsallaşma ve bir arada yaşam ile ortaya çıkan bu ortak kültür bireyleri birbirlerine bağlayıcı kılma ve bir arada yaşamayı içerisinde barındırmaktadır. Tarihin yazılı kaynakları kadar toplumun hafızasında yer alan tarihsel bilgiler de büyük önem arz etmektedir. Bireylerin birer canlı tarih olarak bilgi birikimlerinin paylaşılması ve gün yüzüne çıkarılması noktasında sözlü tarih büyük öneme sahiptir. Kaybolmaya yüz tutmuş kültürel mirasa dayalı çeşitli bilgi ve olaylar toplumları bir arada tutan temel mitler olarak ifade edilebilir. Bu noktadan hareketle çalışmamızın amacı Tokat il merkezin de yer alan mahalle sakinlerinin yaşadıkları mahalle isminin anlamı ile ilgili bilgileri sözlü tarih uygulamaları ile belirlenmeye çalışılmıştır. Çalışma da nitel araştırma desenlerinden olgu bilim yöntemi kullanılmış olup araştırmaya konu olan mahalleler Tokat merkez ilçe de yer alan 42 mahalle ile sınırlandırılmıştır. Bu amaçla hazırlanan görüşme formu ile bizzat mahalle sakinlerinden yaşça daha büyük yetişkin katılımcılarla görüşme gerçekleştirilmiş olup konuyla ilgili veriler kayıt altına alınmıştır. Sosyal bilgiler öğretiminde yer alan sözlü tarih uygulamaları ile birey yaşadığı çevre ve soy ağacıyla ilgili bilgileri bizzat elde edebilmektedir. Böylece Tarih öğretimini daha eğlenceli kılma ve bilgiyi keşfetmesi sağlanmaktadır. Toplumu bir arada tutan kültürel miras ve kültür öğelerinin gelecek kuşaklara aktarılması, topluma ait olma ve farkındalık oluşturmak ancak tarihsel bilgi birikimi ile gerçekleşebilmektedir. Araştırma bulgularında 7. Sınıf öğrencilerinin sözlü tarihe ilişkin bilgilerinde eksilikler olduğu sonucuna varılmıştır. Öğrencilerden bazıları ise cadde, sokak isimlerini yaşadıkları mahalle olarak ifade ettikleri görülmüştür. Ayrıca 39 mahalle isminin anlamı, isminin belirlenmesinde etkili olan durumlar ortaya konulmuştur.
In our everyday life, ordinary people reflect their cultures in their own lives and in the social life of verbal history that moves from their accounts. This common culture, which emerges with socialization and coexistence, is a place where individuals are connected to each other in a cohesive and coexistent way. Historical information in the memory of the society as well as written sources of history are of great importance. Individuals have a great deal of verbal history at the point of sharing and accumulating knowledge as a living history. Various information and events based on cultural heritage that is on the verge of disappearing can be expressed as basic myths holding societies together. The aim of our study with this point was to determine the information about the meaning of the neighborhood name of the residents of the Tokat province center by means of oral history applications. In the study, the method of analysis was used as the qualitative research design and the neighborhoods subject to research were limited to 42 neighborhoods in the central district of Tokat. With the interview form prepared for this purpose, interviews were held with adult participants who were older than the residents themselves and the relevant data were recorded. With the oral history practices in the teaching of social studies, the individual is able to obtain information about the environment and family tree he lives in person. Thus, history teaching is provided to discover more fun and knowledge. The transfer of cultural heritage and cultural elements that hold society together to future generations, collective belonging and awareness can only be realized with the accumulation of historical knowledge. In the research findings, it was concluded that there was a lack of information on the oral history of the 7th grade students. Some of the students have seen street names as street neighborhoods. In addition, the meaning of the name of the 39 neighborhoods, determining the name of the effective conditions have been put forward.
