Özet:

The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of cotton seed meal added to corn silage in order to meet the beef cattle requirements on nutrient content, fermentation ability and invitro rumen parameters. In experiment five groups were constructed by corn grass (Control) and corn grass supplemented with 2%, 4%, 6% or 8% cotton seed meal (CM) along with 4% barley. The preparates were ensiled in 1.5 L jars for 60 days. For each control and treatment groups five replicate jars were prepared. At the end of the fermentation period, dry matter, crude ash, crude protein, acid detergent fiber, neutral detergent fiber, in vitro organic matter digestibility, metabolic energy, pH value, lactic acid, propionic acid, acetic acid, butyric acid and ammonia nitrogen contents of the silage samples were analyzed. Additionally, propionic acid, acetic acid, butyric acid, ammonia nitrogen contents and pH values of in vitro rumen fluid as well as in vitro true organic matter digestibility and in vitro microbial protein production of the samples were determined. Dry matter, crude ash, crude protein, acid detergent fiber, pH and ammonia nitrogen contents of the silage samples increased while neutral detergent fiber decreased along with the increasing level of cotton seed meal (P<0.05). Butyric acid was not detected in any of the silage groups. Additon of cotton seed meal increased in vitro ammonia nitrogen, in vitro microbial protein production and rumen pH while it decreased in vitro organic matter digestibility, metabolic energy, in vitro true organic matter digestibility, acetic acid and butiric acid values (P<0.05). In vitro lactic acid, acetic acid and propionic acid contents of the silage samples did not change. The results suggested that silages of adequate quality could be prepared by addition of 8% cotton seed meal along with 4% barley.
