Abstract:

The interaction of humans with animals dates back to the first ages. Human beings gained important hints about surviving by observing the emigration routes of animals and they discovered toxic plants and water resources by following them. Dogs, have showed an interest in humans’ food waste. By snuggling in human’s living quarters, they have been the first animal which was domesticated and consequently, the mutual utilization has started. Human also domesticated other species to use them for their utility and has rapidly climbed the steps of civilization. The art of animal treatment has started after man have begun to deal with animals’ health and applying their treatment procedures to animals. Veterinary profession was born with the opening of schools because of the infectious animal diseases. Initially veterinarians were only concerned with the health of farm animals. Migration to cities due to the industrial revolution and loneliness experienced after the second world war losses has led to the emergence companion animal concept. Treatment of companion animals and animal use in the experiments have expanded their field of study. Veterinary profession has gained a central position in human-animal interaction with the addition of One Health One Medicine concept and responsibilities related to public health. This study was carried out to evaluate the cornerstone of human-animal interaction with in the scope of veterinary profession.
