Günümüzde bilim, sanayi ve teknoloji gibi çeşitli alanlarda meydana gelen hızlı gelişmeler bireysel ve toplumsal yaşamda önemli değişiklikler meydana getirmiştir. Teknolojik araçların yaygınlaşması, bireyler arasındaki zaman ve mekan gibi sınırlılıkların önemli düzeyde ortadan kaldırılmış olması, bireylerin çeşitli becerilere sahip olmalarını zorunlu hale getirmiştir. Bu beeriler, çağın gerektirdiği beceriler olması bakımndan 21. yüzyıl becerileri olarak ifade edilmektedir. Bu araştırmada 21. yüzyıl becerilerinin ve bu becerilerin eğitim öğretim süreçleri ile ilişkinin tartışılması amaçlanmıştır. Bu amaç bağlamında literatürre dayalı değerlendirmelerde bulunulmuştur. Geleneksel olarak bireylerin belirli alanlarda becerilerinin gelişmiş olması ve kas gücünü gerektiren süreçler önemli düzeyde ortadan kalkmıştır. Buna karşılık teknolojiyi kullanabilme, iletişim becerileri, girişimcilik, yaratıcılık, eleştirel düşünme, medya okuryazarlığı, işbirliği ve öğrenmeyi öğrenme gibi beceriler önemli hale gelmiştir. 21. yüzyıl becerileri arasında yer alan bu becerilerin kazandırılması, bireylerin akademik ve mesleki yaşantılarında önemli avantajlar elde etmelerini sağlamaktadır. Bu bakımdan eğitim öğretim süreçlerinde, temel eğitim aşamasından itibaren 21. yüzyıl becerilerinin etkili bir şekilde bireylere kazandırılması önemlidir.
