Cam Tavan Sendromunun Kadınların Çalışma Hayatına Etkisi : Türkiye ve İngiltere Örneği

Kadın çalışanlar kendilerini geliştirmek için kariyerlerine yönelik atmış oldukları adımlarla kendilerini gösterebilmektedirler. Çağımızda insan kaynaklarına verilen önem derecesinin artması ile birlikte bu durum daha fazla ön plana çıkmaktadır. Bundan dolayı kadınların iş hayatına girmeleri giderek artış göstermiştir. Araştırmalarda görünen kadın yöneticilerinin sayısının az olduğu yönündedir. Kadın çalışanların yönetim kademelerinin dışında olmasının nedenlerinin başında farklı yaklaşımlar vardır. Bunlardan biri ise cam tavan engelleri gösterilmektedir. Bu engeller; çoklu rol üstlenme, kadınların algıları ve tercihleri, kişisel etkenler, toplumsal faktörler, örgütsel etkenler, politikalar şeklinde ifada edilebilir. Bu araştırmada, kadınların iş hayatında ilerlemelerini ve üst kademelere gelmelerini engelleyen faktörleri ortaya koymak ve bunu yaparken cam tavan sendromu kavramından faydalanılmıştır. Cam tavan sendromunun ne olduğu, kadınların iş hayatındaki engellerin bu kavram çerçevesinde ortaya konması ve İngiltere ve Türkiye’de mevcut durumun saptanması amaçlanmıştır. Bu bağlamda, kadınların iş hayatında ilerleyebilmeleri için aşılması gereken adımlar saptanmıştır.

Women workers can show themselves with the steps they have taken towards their career to improve themselves. With the increased importance of human resources in our time, this situation is more on the forefront. This is why women are increasingly engaged in their work. Research shows that the number of female managers appears to be less. There are different approaches to the main reasons why women work outside the management stages. One of these is the glass roof obstacles. These obstacles can be expressed in the form of multi-rol assumption, women’s perceptions and preferences, personal factors, social factors, organizational factors, policies. In this study, the concept of glass roof syndrome was used to identify the factors that prevent women from advancing their work and getting upper stages while doing so. It is intended to identify what the glass roof syndrome is, the obstacles in women’s business life in this framework, and to determine the current situation in Britain and Turkey. In this context, the steps that women need to overcome in order to be able to advance in their work.

With the increasing importance given to human resources in our age, this situation comes to the fore even more. As a result, women's participation in business life has increased. Research shows that the number of female managers is low. There are different approaches at the beginning of the reasons why women employees are excluded from the management levels. One of them is glass ceiling barriers. These obstacles; multi-role taking, women's perceptions and preferences, personal factors, social factors, organizational factors, policies. In this research, the concept of glass ceiling syndrome was used to reveal the factors that prevent women from progressing in business life and coming to the upper levels . It is aimed to reveal what the glass ceiling syndrome is, the obstacles in women's business life within the framework of this concept and to determine the current situation in England and Turkey. In this context, steps to be taken for women to advance in business life have been identified.
