Abstract The gender perspective has managed to register, with more or less success, almost everywhere. Today it occupies a prominent place in many areas of the social sciences, institutional programs and political platforms. Undoubtedly, the efforts of the feminist movement and for the emancipation of women gradually contributed to its legitimization, removing the foundations of inequality inherited from the sexual division of labor. Economic, social and cultural factors, including the imprint of monogamy and the family, led to the establishment of specific scripts and procedures for men and women, as well as asymmetric power relations, apparently immutable. Confirmatory scientific investigations of genetic differences between the sexes have not reported conspicuous evidence regarding their degree of determination in the sheds of social hierarchy; neither do they account for influences on gender subordination schemes.
