Betimleyici Çeviri Kuramı Işığında Bir Öykü İncelemesi: ‘Mademoiselle Perle’ Örneği

Betimleyici çeviri kuramı norm kavramı üzerine kuruludur ve sadece çeviri metinleri değil, metinlerin içinde yer aldığı toplumsal ve kültürel bağlamları da göz önünde bulundurur. Normlar çevirmenler arasında görülen düzenli davranış biçimleridir. Bu davranış biçimleri alınan kararları içerir. Bu kararların sonucunda çevirmen hangi dil ve kültüre daha yakın duracağını belirleyerek “yeterlilik” ya da “kabul edilebilirlik” kutbunu seçer. “Kabul edilebilir” çevirinin “kapalı” bir çeviri olduğu söylenebilir. ‘Kapalı’ çeviride, kaynak metin “yerlileştirilerek” çevrilir. Çeviride erek kültür değerleri ve alıcısı ön planda tutulur. Buna karşın, “açık” çeviride, kaynak metinde alıcıya ve onun kültürüne yabancı olan değerler değiştirilmeden aktarılır. Erek kültüre “yabancılaştırılarak” yapılan bu çeviri, erek okuru kaynak kültür hakkında bilgi sahibi yapabilir. Bu bağlamda, kaynak kültür normlarının egemen olduğu çeviri “yeterlilik” kutbuna yakın dururken, erek kültür normlarının egemen olduğu çeviri “kabul edilebilirlik” kutbuna yakın durduğu ve “yeterlilik” kutbunun “açık” ve “kabul edilebilirlik” kutbunun “kapalı” çeviri yaklaşımıyla örtüştüğü görülür. Günümüzde, küreselleşme süreci ve çevirinin etkiye dayalı işlevsel değerinin artması sonucu “kapalı”, “yerlileştirilmiş” ve “kabul edilebilir” bir çevirinin tercih edildiği söylenebilir. Bu noktadan hareketle, bu çalışmada Guy de Maupassant’ın Mademoiselle Perle adlı öyküsünün dilimize yapılan iki çevirisi betimleyici çeviri kuramı bağlamında çevirmen kararları doğrultusunda çeviri normlarına göre ele alınmış, “açık” / “kapalı”, “yabancılaştırıcı” / “yerlileştirici”, “yeterlilik” / “kabul edilebilirlik” açısından incelenmiş ve çevirmenlerin kullandığı çeviri yöntem, yaklaşım ve stratejileri araştırılmıştır.

The illustrative translation theory is based on the concept of norm and takes into account not only the translation texts, but also the social and cultural contexts in which the texts are included. Norms are the regular forms of behavior seen among translators. These forms of behavior include decisions taken. As a result of these decisions, the translator selects the "quality" or "acceptability" pole by determining which language and culture will be closer. It can be said that the "acceptable" translation is a "closed" translation. In the 'Closed' translation, the source text is translated "localized". In translation, the male cultural values and the recipient are held in the forefront. Nevertheless, in "open" translation, the values that are foreign to the recipient and his culture are transmitted without change in the source text. This translation made to the Erek culture "foreigned" can make the male reader aware of the source culture. In this context, the translation in which the source culture norms dominate is close to the "quality" poles, the translation in which the male culture norms dominate is close to the "acceptable" poles, and the "quality" poles coincide with the "open" and "acceptable" poles with the "closed" translation approach. Today, as a result of the increase in the influence-based functional value of the process of globalization and translation, it can be said that a "closed", "localized" and "acceptable" translation is preferred. Moving from this point, in this study, the two translations of Guy de Maupassant's Mademoiselle Perle's story in our language were addressed according to the translation standards according to the translator's decisions in the context of the illustrative translation theory, studied in terms of "open" / "closed", "extraterrestrial" / "localizing", "quality" / "acceptability" and studied the translation methods, approaches and strategies used by translators.

Descriptive translation theory is based on the concept of norm and takes into account not only the translation texts, but also the social and cultural contexts in which the texts take place. The rules are regular behaviors seen among translators. These behavior patterns include the decisions made. As a result of these decisions, the translator chooses the pole of "competence" or "acceptability" by determining which language and culture to approach closer to. It can be said that the "acceptable" translation is a "covert" translation. In “covert” translation, the source text is translated 'domesticated'. In translation, the values and receptors of the target culture are prioritized. In contrast, in the 'open' translation, the values foreign to the recipient and its culture in the source text are transferred unchanged. This translation, which is 'alienated' from target culture, can make the target reader knowledgeable about the source culture. In this context, it is seen that the definition of "adequate" in which the source culture norms are dominant and the translation in which the target norms are dominant is "acceptable", and the "overt" and "covert" translation approach. Moving from this point, in this study, two translations of the story of Guy de Maupassant's Mademoiselle Perle into our language have been discussed in line with the translator's decisions in terms of descriptive theory according to translation norms "overt" / "covert", "alienating" / "domestication", "adequate" / "acceptable" concepts have been examined and the translation method, approach and strategies used by the translator were investigated.
