Enterocolitis caused by Clostridium difficile is one of the most common nosocomial infection whose severity and frequency has increased considerably over the past decade, with high epidemiological impact worldwide. Clostridium difficile infection encompasses a wide spectrum of symptoms, from asymptomatic form to the production of fulminant colitis and the development of toxic megacolon. The main hypothesis we want to demonstrate is how the precipitating factors influence the determination of Clostridium difficile infection, respectively the highlighting of the epidemiological and economic impact. Although antibiotic therapy and chronic treatment with proton pump inhibitors are the primary etiology of Clostridium difficile infection, other risk factors with a significant impact were also highlighted such as: health care centers, intensive care units, as well as multiple and prolonged hospitalizations. Awareness of the main determined factors, as well as the early initiation of therapeutic conduct and primary prophylaxis methods have a major contribution in reducing the duration of hospitalization, as well as the associated costs.
