Diyarbekir, hem sahip olduğu tarihi kentsel özellikler hem de toplumsal çeşitlilik yönüyle tarihin her döneminde bulunduğu coğrafyaya önemli derecede sosyo-kültürel izler bırakmıştır. Diyarbekir şehri, gayrimüslim ve Müslim nüfusun karşılıklı ticari ve kültürel etkileşimde bulunduğu, birbirleriyle aynı sokakları, pazarları, çarşıları paylaştığı mekan olması dolayısıyla da sosyal yönden ilgi çeken bölge olmuştur. Her ne kadar şehirde, İslam nüfus ile Hıristiyan ve Yahudi nüfus bir arada yaşasa da gayrimüslim nüfusun, dini ve sosyal yaşam içerisindeki statüsü, Osmanlı Kanunları kapsamında Müslümanlarınkinden farklı bir seyir izlemiştir. Diyarbekir şehrinde yaşayan gayrimüslim nüfus içerisinde en fazla çoğunluğu oluşturan Ermeniler ve Süryaniler, şehrin ticaret sektöründe de önemli mikyasta söz sahibi olmuştur. Yaşam standartları bakımından Müslüman halkın pek çoğundan gayet iyi durumda olan gayrimüslimler, XIX. yüzyılın ilk yarısından itibaren Diyarbekir’de idarî yönetim birimlerinde de etkilerini göstermeye başlamışlardır. Nitekim bu çalışmada Diyarbekir’de yaşayan gayrimüslimlerin sosyal ve hukukî özellikleri üzerinde değerlendirmede bulunulacaktır.
Diyarbekir has left significant socio-cultural traces to the geography in every period of history in terms of both its historical urban characteristics and social diversity. The city of Diyarbekir has become a region of interest and social interest, because it is a place where non-Muslim and Muslim populations are in mutual commercial and cultural interaction, where they share the same streets, markets and streets with each other. Although in the city, the Islamic population and the Christian and Jewish population live together, the status of the non-Muslim population, in the religious and social life, has followed a different journey from the Muslims within the framework of the Ottoman Laws. The Armenians and Syrians, who make up the majority of the non-Muslim population living in the city of Diyarbekir, have also had a majority in the city’s trade sector. The non-Muslims who are in a very good condition of the Muslim population in terms of living standards, XIX. From the first half of the century, they began to show their influence in the administrative units in Diyarbekir. In fact, this study will be assessed on the social and legal characteristics of the non-Muslims living in Diyarbekir.
