Abstract:

One of the most important events on the island of Cyprus is the establishment of the Republic of Cyprus. The reason for the short duration of the three-year bi-communal state experience is the developments before and after the establishment of the Republic of Cyprus. In this context, the newspapers on the island are very important in terms of revealing all this process of change and transformation at a political and intellectual level. Therefore, this study examines how the Republic of Cyprus, founded in 1960, was interpreted by Bozkurt newspaper. In the study, the main features of the Turkish Cypriot press history were briefly mentioned, Bozkurt newspaper was introduced, and how the important events that took place in 1960 were reflected on the Bozkurt newspaper was pointed out. The aim of this study is to reveal how the Republic of Cyprus was interpreted in the press, especially in Bozkurt newspaper, historically. Descriptive method was used in the study. The newspapers dated 13, 14, 15, 16 August 1960 constituted the limitation of the study. The most important finding of the study was that the Republic of Cyprus, which was established as a bi-communal, was interpreted in relation to the arrival of Turkish soldiers on the island. In other words, the arrival of Turkish soldiers on the island as a result of the Republic of Cyprus stood out as the most important achievement of the newly established state.
